Boiler Test Pump
|
This hydraulic test pump was built to pressure test boilers. The design was based on a pump I had seen in a magazine. However the original design used a casting for the main pump body which was no longer available, so this version was fabricated from brass plate and bar. |

The piston had an o-ring seal and the pump would hit the maximum pressure of 250psi in just a few strokes. |

The pump contained a non-return valve was a bronze ball in a brass seat, but it didn't seal well all the time. This needed to be addressed because the standard pressure test was to pump a boiler up to pressure, and check that it could hold this pressure for 10 mins. In the end the bronze ball was replaced with a nitrile rubber ball of the same diameter. This provided a very good seal. |
